The film was directed by Manmohan Desai and produced by Rajini Desai. Roti is counted one of the gems of Manmohan Desai.
The film was one of the biggest hits of 1974, with family, romance, adventure, drama, and thriller genres. It became a hit at the box office and the Filmfare Best Editing Award was bagged by Kamlakar Karkani.
